Comfort for Your Soul

Scripture has the unusual ability to meet us in so many circumstances. When we feel intense joy or deep sorrow. It can come at just the right moment through a friend or devotional.

If we’ve endured something painful and the church has not been a place of support, then faith and scripture do not always bring comfort or reassurance. At times, partners leaving an addictive or abusive relationship will leave the church and struggle to find a new church because of the harm they experienced in a church building. I want to honor and validate that, if that’s where you’re at today. There is no pressure to be somewhere you’re not.

For those who still feel connected to God or who are longing for words to comfort their souls, here are some truths in scripture that may give you hope, allow you to grieve, help you feel valued, protected, or bring comfort.

He will comfort you

God comforts the downcast, including me. 2 Corinthians 7:6

He cares for me. 1 Peter 5:7

If I draw near to God, He will draw near to me. James 4:8

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

Matthew 11:28-30

It’s ok grieve

In this world I will have trouble. John 16:33

Then Jesus wept. John 11:35

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Psalm 34:18

Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4

He offers hope

Nothing will separate me from the love of Christ. Romans 8:35

God has created good works for me to walk in, today. Ephesians 2:10

God will supply all my needs. Philippians 4:19

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

I matter to Him

I am worth (to God) more than the birds that He feeds. Matthew 6:26

I may approach God with freedom and confidence. Ephesians 3:12

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Luke 12: 6 & 7

Psalm 139

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. Ephesians 2:10

He is my protector & a God of justice

The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14

The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. Psalm 18:2

I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you. Isaiah 46:4

God will repay with trouble those who trouble me. 2 Thessalonians 1:6

“Come to me for rest and refreshment. The journey has been too much for you, and you are bone-weary. Do not be ashamed of your exhaustion. Instead, see it as an opportunity for Me to take charge of your life. Remember that I can fit everything in a pattern for good, including tings you wish were different. Start with where you are at this point in time and space…you will get through this today one step, one moment at a time.” -Sarah Young, Jesus Calling
