Finding Serenity in the Chaos

Chaos is never something we seek, but sometimes it follows us. It follows us into our churches, our workplaces, and our homes. No matter how hard we try to keep things peaceful, someone else has other plans. But that doesn't mean that serenity and peacefulness aren't possible. Here's a tool to help you find the peace you seek amidst the chaos.


Serenity Prayer Exercise


Take a moment to prayerfully consider the things that are creating stress in your life. Place them in the correct category and pray this prayer with your specific needs for 30 days. Note any changes or shifts that you notice over those 30 days in your journal to track your progress.


What stressors are in your life that you do not have control of and cannot change? List them below this prompt. For example, “My spouse’s reactions” or “my mom’s critical nature”.


God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change







Now think through stressors that you may be able to change. For example, “My financial situation” or “My reaction to my spouse”.


The courage to change the things I can, 





Use this space to outline those stressors that don’t seem to fit in either category and pray for wisdom. As God grants it to you, move them to one of the other two categories. 


and the wisdom to know the difference.
